Jamie Minneman
Jamie Minneman is the Director of Instrumental Activities at Barton Community College. She received her bachelors of Music Education at Washburn University and her Masters of Music Education at Kansas State University. She has taught K-12 instrumental and vocal music in Kansas public schools for 23 years and was named Southwest KMEA's middle level teacher of the year in 2011. She has also served as the SWKMEA high school band chair and the North Central district's president. Currently, she is the KMEA President-Elect. She has served on the KBA board and is a member of Phi Beta Mu. Jamie has performed with the Topeka Symphony Orchestra, the Hutchinson Symphony and the Dodge City Orchestra as well as the Marshall County Community Band. She has enjoyed adjudicating both bands and instrumental solos and ensembles for various festivals in Kansas. In addition to her music teaching duties, Jamie has enjoyed coaching volleyball, basketball and track.
Jamie believes every child should have the opportunity to experience music in school. It is the only discipline of its kind, and the students that music education programs are producing are the ones our society desperately needs right now. They are the problem solvers, the ones that know how to get along with others and communicate with others, and the ones who appreciate beauty. She says, "My role as an educator is one of mentor, coach and model. My goal is to develop life-long music consumers: adults who can actively participate in music making and listening throughout their lives. Music provides a rare experience where ALL students can achieve self-growth, a sense of self-worth and a unique emotional experience as well as developing their innate capacity for creative self-expression."
